Summary:

The debut film from independent Darren Aranofsky is the story of a mathematician/computer hacker, who is on the right track to finding a way to predict the stock market. When he starts to succeed in his work, he is independently approached by a Wall Street trading firm and some Jewish scholars, both insisting that he direct his studies towards their own, surreptitious goals. What is he up to, anyway?

My Comments and Spoilers:

Very fast paced, and very interesting. Shot in black and white, with odd camera mounts and action. The actual film was shot in a reverse negative, which was then redeveloped back to look "normal". This leads to everything in the film to have an oversaturated, blanched look. Techno music is used for the background filler, and it fits well. There are a lot of mathematics bandied about in the film, and true mathematicians will cringe at how some theories and techniques are glossed over. I'm told that some Jewish scholars of the Kabala will also complain that it is also not treated with the respect that it deserves. Since I don't consider myself an expert in either of these areas, I thouroughly enjoyed this movie.
