We got to see and experience a demonstration of a new design feature that's in the BMW Z9 roadster, a 4-seat high-end convertible. BMW created iDrive, a new control system that handles and manages most of the accessories that a car would have - Heating/Air Conditioning System, Stereo System, GPS Receiver/Route System, and Cell Phone. Interesting idea. BMW has two simulators for people to use and play with the controls. Basically, there's a large knob in the center console that tilts in 4 directions, rotates, and pushes downward. There's a pop-up LCD-screen display where you navigate through your selections. The idea is a good one, but I found it a little clumsy and not so intuitive to use, sometimes. When my friend Doug was operating the controls, the simulation crashed with a Windows error! Still, it was fun playing around with a potentially new automotive interior design. Very cool!
