A guy drives a hitchhiker back to her compound, where he becomes embroiled in their anti-Conspiracy movement.
I saw this film at the 1998 SlamDance Film Festival in their screening room with a crowd of about 40-50 people. The audience was probably populated with the cast and crew of the film, considering the response ti generated from them. To top it off, there was an annoying woman who sat two rows ahead of me, and she would start laughing at the change of a scene. At first, I thought she was stoned out of her gourd, but eventually, I came to understand that she was laughing at some of the inside jokes that she would recall about the scene in question. How I longed for the "dynamite" that the characters used in the film to blow up a post office, only I would have made sure it exploded the first time. It was hella distracting, and prevented me from even trying to find some enjoyment in the movie.
With that said, I wonder what there was to enjoy in this film. What we have here is a bunch of people who sit around and complain that the government does this, the government does that, and so therefore they're to blame for why their lives are so miserable. The only way they can solve their problems, is to make a statement, and that statement is to blow something up.
These people are too disconnected to see why things are so bad for them. After seeing this movie, I coined the term Conspiracy Junkie. These people rant about ever possible coverup that was ever constructed by the governemt. The government, quite frankly, couldn't care less about these people, considering they aren't really effectual about anything. I'd rather believe that people like this epitomize a big problem in society, in that if their lives are so screwed up, they'd rather blame someone else than look inward to the true nature of their problems. Having one Conspiracy Junkie in a room I can manage, but a dozen? Thank you, no.
I can't believe how much I've written this much about a film I can't recommend to anyone. Even if it was made in an attempt at parody, the satire is lost on me. This movie irritates me more than it should. I won't even go into the low budget quality of the film, except to mention that it probably helped prevent me from leaving the screening, which I almost never do. Avoid it at all costs.
