Mike Judge, creator of Beavis and Butthead, and King of the Hill, comes up with his first live-action movie. The movie succeeds for the first half, but then it stops being funny. A programmer working on the Year2000 problem gets disinterested with his work after a funny scene involving hypnosis (Look for Mike McShane from Whose Line Is It, Anyway ). Management consultants see this as a sign that he's ready for promotion. Hilarity ensues, but only for the first half of the film. There are some good performances by the actors, but Steven Root (the mumbling employee) steals every scene he's in.
The concept for this film started out as a collection of short animations that Mike did for Saturday Night Live. I specifically recall one scene that was directly taken from there. Jennifer Aniston, who I'd say is the best "actor" from the cast of Friends (not the funniest, mind you) plays her role well, but she doesn't have enough material to really take off.
A good soundtrack accompanies the film, and stay through the credits to hear a Rap version of "Take this Job and Shove It!" that I like more than the original.
Entertaining, but not enough to recommend you go to the movies to see it. Wait for a rental, or when it comes to cable.
None, really. The jokes are best seen.
